34,000 Ghost Workers: FG Uncovers Thieving Syndicate Behind The Scam

Indications emerged at the weekend that in the course of investigating how 34,000 ghost workers got on the federal payroll, a three-ring syndicate has been uncovered.

Last month, Finance Minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun blew open 23,000 ghost workers on the payroll.

She said in the aftermath of deploying the Bank Verification Number (BVN), 23,000 ghost workers were discovered, saying the Federal Government lost N2.29 billion per month.

Less than three weeks after that, another 11,000 ghost workers were also discovered on government’s payroll.

Yunusa Dahiru, the alleged abductor of Ese Oruru standing trial at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, has just been granted a bail of N3 million and two sureties in like sum.


The sureties, according to the ruling must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court while one must be a civil servant of not less that level 12 while the second must be a title holder.

Ruling on the bail application, the trial judge Justice H. A. Nganjiwa stated that the suspect be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
