Obama Most Admired Man Among Americans- Poll


Former US president Barack Obama is the most admired man in the United States and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton the most admired woman, according to a poll published on Wednesday Dec 27.

Obama came out on top of the annual Gallup survey for the 10th year in a row while Clinton, who lost last year's presidential election to Donald Trump, was named the most admired woman for the 16th straight year.

Seventeen per cent of the Americans polled said Obama was the man they admired most, down from 22 per cent last year. Trump was second with 14 per cent followed by Pope Francis with 3 per cent.

Australia's Prime Minister Fined $250 For Not Wearing A Life Jacket On Boat


Australia’s Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has been fined $250 after he was photographed driving a dingy while not wearing a lifejacket.

Mr Turnbull issued an apology on Facebook after The Australian newspaper published the photos of him in a motorised inflatable raft near his home in Sydney Harbour.

The Liberal politician, who owns a waterside mansion in the affluent neighbourhood of Point Piper, in east Syndey, said the rules around maritime safety were "very technical" but that he had "learned" his lesson.

Lindsay Lohan Bitten By A Snake While Vacationing In Thailand


Lindsay Lohan was bitten by a snake during a hike in Phuket, Thailand, she revealed on her Instagram story. The “Mean Girls” star shared a video of her beautiful surroundings before zooming in on the red bite on her ankle.

“I love this, it's so beautiful, amazing place...aside from my snake bite,” she said.

Dog Statue Resembling Trump Unveiled In China



In honor of the Lunar New Year a shopping mall in northern China has planted an enormous statue of a dog that resembles President Donald Trump.

The statue, which is displayed at Fashion Walk Mall in Taiyuan, has been installed to celebrate the coming Year of the Dog.

The huge canine figure has Trump's, 71, signature golden hairstyle, prominent eyebrows and classic gesture.

The figure has one finger extended in the air in the President's classic pose and the dog is even wearing a red scarf, representative of Trump's power ties.

ELITE CONNIVED WITH FOREIGN FIRMS TO DEFRAUD NIGERIA – BUHARI




President Muhammadu Buhari has said some Nigerian elite connived with foreign firms to defraud the country.

Buhari said this on Friday when he received a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kebbi state in the presidential villa, Abuja.

The president said the elite colluded with foreign shipping firms, insurance companies and financial outfits to deplete the country’s foreign reserves.


He said: “When I was told that the CBN had no savings after the windfall of selling oil for more than 100 dollars per barrel for many years and production was 2.1 billion barrels per day, I did not believe them.


“I did not believe them because majority of Nigerians cannot afford imported food; they rely on what is locally grown. It turned out that 50 per cent of the export bills were fraudulent, courtesy of the Nigerian elite.

Churches and mosques to start paying taxes in Lagos



Religious organisations such as mosques, churches will now start paying taxes in Lagos.

A bill that would review the land use charge in Lagos state has gone through second reading on the floor of the state House of Assembly during plenary on Thursday, December 28.


The law tagged: “A Bill for A Law To Repeal The Land Use Charge Law 2001 and Enact Land Use Charge 2017 and For Connected Purposes” was subsequently committed to the House Ad-hoc Committee on Finance headed by Yinka Ogundimu representing Agege II.

President Buhari signs 6 bills into law, including compulsory treatment for gunshot victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law six bills including the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017 and Anti-Torture Act, 2017.
The six Acts have come into effect as laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, briefed State House Correspondents after the President signed the bills into law.

American man arrested for posing as Nigerian prince to defraud people

After an 18-month investigation, Slidell police arrested 67-year-old Michael Neu on 269 counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering, after he helped scam people out of thousands of dollars as a middleman in one of the well-known “Nigerian prince”internet scams, a Slidell police spokesman said in a news release Thursday.

Police say Neu was the “middle man” to an e-mail scam, where someone posing as a Nigerian prince claims the victim is the beneficiary in a will and set to inherit millions of dollars. They then ask for your personal financial information to prove that you are the beneficiary and to speed up the transfer of your alleged inheritance.

Woman convicted for reading husband’s emails without his permission



A woman has been convicted of accessing her husband’s email account and discovering he was having several affairs.

The Swiss woman became suspicious after her husband set up a second email account on their home computer, according to the Aargauer Zeitung.



The unnamed couple had always known each other’s passwords and had even written them down, according to the paper.

Her husband used one of these passwords for his new account, so the woman was able to access it and read his emails.

When she did, she discovered that he had been having affairs with several other women for some time.

Sri Lanka Bans Begging In Capital City Colombo From Jan 1st


The Sri Lankan government said yesterday that it would ban begging on roads or in public transport in the capital, Colombo, from January 1, local media reported.




Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka said a survey conducted by the ministry in partnership with others showed that around 600 beggars beg within Colombo city limits.


He said considering the inconvenience caused to the public, and as a measure of the Colombo city beautification programme, it had decided to prohibit begging in and around Colombo from January 1.
