The wife of Ogun State Governor, Olufunso Amosun, has said the wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari, is interested in the welfare of Korede, the nine-year-old boy, chained by his father for over a month.

She said this yesterday when she paid a visit to the boy at the Children’s Ward of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

Amosun said she was happy to see Korede recovering fast, adding that the President’s wife was interested in the welfare and speedy rehabilitation of the boy.

One of the ISIS gunmen who brutally slaughtered an 84-year-old priest in the French town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray near Rouen in Normandy has been named as 19-year-old Adel Kermiche.

The producers of Fireman Sam have been accused of Islamophobia after an episode appeared to show a character stepping on a page from the Koran.

Channel 5 was forced to pull the programme from its online streaming service after eagle-eyed viewers blasted the producer of the popular children’s show.

A Chinese father is suing his three daughters for not returning home to visit him 'frequently'.

The 69-year-old, named Yang Zhengyuan, from Sichuan province filed a lawsuit in March claiming that his daughters hadn't come home enough or given him enough financial support, reports the People's Daily Online.
This comes after Shanghai announced that parents would be able to sue their children if they refused to visit them.In addition they would also be given a bad credit rating. The father-of-three claims that his children have not come home enough and have not supported him over the past 10 years. However the daughters, Yang Liu, Yang Qing and Yang Lan have issued a counterclaim arguing that he is guilty of domestic violence and favouring boys over girls. Yang Liu claims that her father beat her in her own office after she failed to give him the money he was demanding from her.

Stepmother, Two Teachers To Die By Hanging Over Death Of Toddler

An Edo High Court on Monday sentenced three people to death by hanging over the murder of a three-year-old girl.

The convicts, Betty Stephen, the stepmother, and the two teachers- Johnson Ogbeide and Nancy Aiwuyor, committed the offence on February 24, 2009, at Erhiborhibo village, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo.

The judge, Justice Geraldine Imadegbelo, in her judgment said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

A television/film producer has narrated how policemen followed him to an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to collect a N10,000 bribe. Benjamin Ogunbodede, an unmarried man, was illegally arrested and detained by police officers attached to Ajuwon Police Station in Ogun on an adultery charge and was eventually extorted of his money after being detained overnight.

Ogunbodede told SaharaReporters that he was detained between July 15 and 16 after he was arrested at about 10:30 pm while returning from work in the company of a lady he had given a lift in his car.

Buhari Condemns Coup In Turkey, Congratulates President For Surviving It

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined President Obama and other world leaders in vehemently condemning the abortive coup attempt in Turkey by a group of rebel army officers and men, which resulted in the reported death of more than 100 people.

Reacting to the tragic events in Ankara, Istanbul and other centres, President Buhari said he was “deeply saddened by reports of a violent attempt to dismantle constitutional authority and disrupt the democratically elected government of Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey.”

“The removal of a democratic government by force is no longer acceptable. Violence can never solve any problem but only complicates them and sets back the progress of democratic societies.”

Following the failed coup in Turkey yesterday, photos have emerged which shows civilians beheading a soldier and beating others who surrendered on Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge.

The coup attempt crumbled as Prime minister Erdogan rushed back to Istanbul from a Mediterranean holiday and urged people to take to the streets to support his government against plotters he accused of trying to kill him.

"They will pay a heavy price for this," "This uprising is a gift from God to us because this will be a reason to cleanse our army." He saidMore than 2,839 soldiers have been arrested following the failed coup ..

Three police officers feared dead in shooting in Baton Rouge, official says

At least three police officers are feared dead following a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday morning, according to a elected local official. East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Kip Holden told CNN that “three police officers are feared dead” and an unknown number of others are injured following a shooting that took place at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that law enforcement are “working a shooting incident involving officers” but was not able to provide further details. She said early Sunday that the scene remained active.

Two agencies, the Baton Rouge Police Department and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, were involved in the shooting, Ms. Hicks said.

Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola told The Associated Press that he not know the extent of the injuries or the precise number of officers injured. He said that authorities believe the “scene is contained,” meaning that a shooter was unlikely on the loose.

While initial reports indicated that a lone gunman was involved in the shooting, which occurred about a mile from police headquarters, police have not yet confirmed any details about a shooter or shooters.
