A dad who died after his truck became submerged during torrential floods sent a haunting last Facebook post showing his hopeless final moments.
Darren Mitchell, 21, appeared to have become trapped in his vehicle as flood waters rose during brutal floods in Texas, US.
He posted a picture from inside his truck along with the caption "And all I wanted was to go home".
His body was later found more than a mile downstream from where his overturned truck was discovered.Darren was one of four people killed in floods which struck the region on Thursday.

37-yr-old man gets 6 months jail term for touching teen’s breast in Lagos

An Ikeja magistrate’s Court, weekend, sentenced a 37-year-old man, Ibrahim Abu, to six months imprisonment for touching the breast of a 17-year-old girl (names withheld) without her consent.

Abu, who lives at 6, Mosque Close, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos State, was arraigned before Magistrate Osusanmi and sentenced last Friday for sexually assaulting the girl Monday last week.

Vanguard gathered that the girl was asked by her parents to learn hairdressing, while awaiting the release of her Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, result.

Forty-nine-year old Jafaru Sogei, who allegedly killed Rose, his wife of 26 years, last Friday, may be “mentally unstable”, the police said yesterday.
Acting spokesman of Lagos Command Chukwuma Ozoani, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said there was possibility that the suspect is mentally unstable because he can barely speak for now.

8 children in critical condition after lightning struck them during birthday party

Eight children and three adults at a children's birthday party in Paris were struck by lightning yesterday after a sudden storm sent a bolt crashing down upon them.

According to reports, four children and two adults were seriously injured. Four of those seriously injured are in life-threatening condition. One adult and five children were slightly injured.

The birthday group had sought shelter under a tree at Park Monceau, a northwest Paris park popular with well-to-do families, when a lightning bolt touched down, according to Paris fire service
spokesman Eric Moulin.

A Mexican international footballer was kidnapped last night in his hometown, triggering a massive manhunt in territory that has been a battleground of warring drug cartels.

Alan Pulido, 25, was abducted after leaving a party late on Saturday night. The kidnapping happened near Pulido’s hometown of Ciudad Victoria, 200 miles south of the Texas border, according to family and state government officials.

Pulido’s brother Armando told the sports publication Medio Tiempo that his brother had attended the party with his girlfriend and left at around 11.30pm. Pulido was traveling back to Ciudad Victoria
when his vehicle was intercepted and he was seized by unknown individuals, his brother said.

A state security source told the Guardian Pulido had been seen in Ciudad Victoria driving a BMW. The source said it was not known if he was pulled from that vehicle by his captors.

Photos: Loneliest elephant in the world dies aged 69

An elephant that lived alone at a zoo in Tokyo for 67 years sparking a worldwide campaign to free her has died in her concrete pen.

Hanako, or 'flower child', who was described by campaigners as the 'loneliest elephant in the world', died at the age of 69 at Inokashira Park Zoo in the Japanese capital.
She was a gift from the Thai government in 1949 and had lived at the park since she was two. She was Japan's oldest elephant and had a long life for captive Asian elephants.
Zoo spokesman Naoya Ohashi said Hanako was discovered lying on her side on Thursday morning
and repeated efforts to raise her upright were not successful. She died peacefully in the afternoon.
Naoya said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause.
Ulara Nakagawa, a Vancouver resident whose blog inspired the petition drive for Hanako, said it was sad how the elephant had spent her life in an enclosure without dirt or grass and water to splash around in.

Following reports, Wednesday, that one of the 276 Chibok School girls abducted on April 14, 2014 by the Islamist group, Boko Haram has been found, controversy however emanated as to the real name of the girl. While the activist who found the girl gave her name as Amina Ali, the Nigerian army, in a confirmatory statement issued on Wednesday gave her name as Falmata Mbalala.

“This is to confirm that one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls… was among rescued persons by our troops,” army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement. Usman gave the girl’s name as Falmata Mbalala and said she was found in Baale, near the town of Damboa, which is 90 kilometres (56 miles) southwest of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

The first of 219 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram from Chibok more than two years ago has been found.

According to reports, Amina Ali was discovered in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno state by civilian vigilantes assisting the military on Tuesday.Ali, who was 17 when she was abducted, has reportedly had a child while in captivity.
