After polygamy was legalized in Kenya, another country has followed...

Mandatory polygamy by men in Eritrea is being received with a mix of bewilderment and excitement.

Activists have posted a memo by the Government of Eritrea asking men to marry at least two wives due to acute shortage of men occasioned by casualties during the civil war with Ethiopia.

The May 1998 to June 2000 Eritrean/Ethiopian war saw 150,000 soldiers killed from either sides but bigger impact on male population in the Eritrea nation who were then just 4 million people in total.

A music teacher has been arrested after he allegedly threw a baby girl out of a first-floor window when the infant's mother caught him sexually abusing her.
The 17-month-old girl remains in intensive care in a 'grave' condition after she was reportedly hurled out of the 12-foot-high window in Vitoria-Gasteiz, northern Spain, yesterday.

The baby was allegedly being abused by the 30-year-old teacher at a property in the Basque country when her 18-year-old mother entered the room.

Fake LUTH Doctor Says He Bought His Certificates For N100,000

A 43-year-old man, Opeyemi Adesina, who allegedly paraded himself as a consultant gynaecologist with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, says he paid N100,000 to buy the seven forged certificates he used.

It was learnt that Adesina, who hails from Ekiti State, was arrested on Tuesday by the Alakara Police Division on Alowolodu Street in the Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that Adesina was arrested after his landlord, identified only as Akorede, wrote a “save-my-soul” petition to the management of LUTH some weeks ago alleging that Adesina brought home female patients to treat in his house and did abortions for them, among other unwholesome practices which could implicate him (the landlord).

A student has shared a horrifying photo of herself in hospital in an effort to warn others about the dangers of binge drinking. Hanna Lottritz, a 21-year-old journalism student at the University of Nevada, drank five times the legal limit for driving at a concert with friends and then collapsed into a coma.

The aspiring journalist has now taken to her blog to narrate how it all happened. She writes:

I didn’t realise the importance of drinking responsibly until I was waking up from a coma… Many of the people I was with had been drinking throughout the day and were already feeling good.

There is an on-going petition to stop Kanye West from making a tribute album to David Bowie and it has been signed by almost 5,000 people.

This comes after it was claimed that Kanye is putting his own spin to the late singer’s hits and people seem not to buy the idea.

The petition was created by Peter Pirahna and addressed to Kanye, it reads,

18 year old Jess Fairclough, from Liverpool, was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma a rare form of cancer in 2014 . Biafrans Protest In Front Of President Obama’s Residence At The US

World has received reports that there is a huge Biafran rally currently going on in front of the US White House in Washington DC. The rally was described as a protest against the killings of Biafrans by the Buhari led government of Nigeria. The protesters are also calling for the released of what they described as political prisoner Nnamdi Kanu. The protesters also want an Independent Republic of Biafra which they said was re- annexed back to Nigeria in 1970. Yesterday the EU released a statement in support of the Biafran Referendum, and called on the Nigerian government to respect Human Rights of Nigerian citizens which includes peaceful rallies and demonstrations. The EU stated that while it has strong ties with Nigeria, the issue of Human Rights comes first as a priority.

Killers Of Ex-FUTA VC Sentenced To Death

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure on Wednesday sentenced two persons, Ita Enang and Olayemi Bamitale, to death by hanging for killing a former Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Albert Ilemobade.

Enang and Bamitale were two domestic staff of the late varsity don.
They were accused of killing Ilemobade in September last year and dumped his remains in an empty stall in his compound at Ijapo,Akure, before carting away his Toyota SUV car and other valuable items from the compound.

At the court, the presiding magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko ordered him to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.

The suspect, Okechukwu Okere, allegedly went to the boutique located at 125, Lawanson street, in Itire area of Lagos where the victim is the sale’s person. Okere pretended that he wanted to buy clothes and shoes. But unknown to the victim, he had another motive.

Buhari Is Operating As The Accuser, Prosecutor And Judge – Fayose

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of single-handedly identifying and prosecuting leading figures of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) without the required evidence.

According to the governor, Buhari has been operating as the accuser, prosecutor and judge, at the same time, “carrying on as if those he accused of corruption have already been convicted”.

In a release issued on Friday by Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media, Fayose challenged the president to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to charge Olisa Metuh, national publicity secretary of PDP, to court if the commission was sure of evidence of fraud against him.

“The EFCC appears to be operating a system in which an accused person is first arrested, detained endlessly while the anti-corruption agency goes about looking for evidence,” he said.

Uche Ekwunife, the senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, announced on Friday that she had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ekwunife, who was inaugurated as senator in June, 2015, had her election nullified by Appeal Court in Enugu on Dec. 6, 2015, on grounds of irregularities. The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in the zone within 90 days.

Mtn Allegedly Recalls Sacked Visafone Staff

MTN Nigeria said it has recalled over 90 per cent of sacked employees of Visafone following its acquisition of the leading Coded Division Multiple
Access (CDMA) network.

According to reports all disengaged staff, excluding drivers and office assistants, have now been recalled.According to one of the recalled staff almost all the sacked staff have been reinstated and are now awaiting their new salary renumeration packages and work guidelines.

“When we were asked to leave, we were given only three months salaries in lieu of notice, which was not too good because some of us have put in five to 10 years of service. Visafone Communications came into Nigeria at a time when the defunct Multi-Links and Starcoms were dominating the CDMA sector. It broke their monopoly and instantly became the fourth largest network in the country.”
On the number of staff affected, our source said about 500 and not 2,000 as reported were involved because of the consecutive lay-off in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Jim Nwobodo Dumps PDP for APC; He was Named in Dasukigate

Former governor of the old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, who admitted receiving N100million from former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, on Friday dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling All Progressive Congress.

He defected to the APC in Enugu alongside a former senator, Fidelis Okoro, representing Enugu North, and another chieftain of PDP, Richard Ozobu. They were received into the APC at the party’s meeting convened by Foreign Affairs Minister, Jeffrey Onyeama.

Punch reports that there were indications that the former PDP bigwigs’ defection did not go down well with the some APC members, who openly voiced their dissatisfaction with the development at
