According to the police investigation, Ndlovu began arguing with Maphosa in the afternoon when he refused her sexual advances.
After several hours of arguing, Ndlovu went to sleep in the bedroom while Maphosa fell asleep on a couch in the kitchen. Around 2:00 a.m., Ndlovu woke up, took an ax and attacked her sleeping husband.
Maphosa died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
At first, Ndlovu told neighbors that an intruder was responsible for her husband’s death, but when police arrived to questioned her, she fled from the scene.
After two weeks, police managed to track her down and arrested her on charges of murder. Ndlovu was brought before the Bulawayo Magistrate’s Court, where she was released on bail.
