The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) finally joined Twitter with the handle @ThisIsBuhari on Monday.
Here are 7 quick features to note about Buhari’s official Twitter handle:
– The account will be run by his office with personal tweets signed GMB.
– His first tweet read: “Good afternoon my friends! This will be the new official Twitter handle to communicate with you. – GMB.”
– The account, @ThisIsBuhari, as at the filing of this report had gathered over 25,000 followers, making it one of the fastest growing Twitter accounts in the country.
– He follows only five other accounts – Rotimi Amaechi (@ChibuikeAmaechi), Atiku Abubakar (@atiku), Yemi Osinabjo (ProfOsinbajo), APC (@APCNigeria) and Buhari Volunteers (@GMBVolunteers).
– He sent out a shout out to Atiku Abubakar shortly after the former Vice President warmly welcomed him to the new media platform: ‘Thank you@atiku, your service to our great party continues to inspire. #APC#ThingsMustChange.”
– The hashtag #ThingsMustChange appears to be a Buhari campaign slogan coined from the general change message of the All Progressives Congress party.
– Several key aides to President Goodluck Jonathan including Dr. Reuben Abati, Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode and more are currently following the account.
